What to send
The observation pages of the report, the report date, and photographs of the consumer unit and any affected areas. That is normally enough for an initial response.
An EICR may record observations requiring further investigation or remedial work. Send the complete report rather than only the summary page, together with the property postcode and access information. Big Volt Electric can review the observations and confirm what must be inspected before an accurate remedial quotation is prepared.
When to enquire
Define the scope
Acting on a report
An unsatisfactory report means at least one C1, C2 or FI observation was recorded. The report should describe each one and where it is, which is enough for any competent electrician to quote against — you are not obliged to use the firm that carried out the inspection.
Not everything can be priced from paper. An FI code means the extent is not yet known by definition, and observations behind accessories or under floors may prove larger once opened up. A quotation should say clearly which items are fixed price and which are provisional.

In England, remedial or further investigative work identified by a report must be carried out within 28 days, or sooner if the report specifies. Written confirmation that the work has been done is then required, and must be supplied to tenants.
Codes are a matter of professional judgement and practice does vary. Where an observation looks disproportionate, it is reasonable to ask for the reasoning or to seek another view before committing to the work.
On completion you should receive written confirmation that the items have been rectified, along with the appropriate certificate for any new or altered circuits.
Include the postcode, preferred timing and any useful existing information.
